I have a Biostar M7VIT v.1 motherboard using Phoenix BIOS. I downloaded what I thought was the coorect update from Biostar's site. Problem is, they only list a M7VIT Pro and M7VIT Bravo. The Pro has Chipset KT400 and the Bravo has KT400A so I chose the Pro's update. Went into CMOS and updated, but after it finshed and asked me to save the settings the screen went blank. Rebooted but still had blank screen. Then cleared CMOS via the jumpers but had the same problem. Is there anything I can do?!? Found some site that will reprogram BIOS chip, but is there any other alternative?

No, you'll have to have the chip reprogrammed. Not sure what they charge, but usually the board is just trash now.

I have heard you can send it into the manufacturer at least with an asus board and they will replace the bios chip if it is removable. Some boards are and some aren't. They will also send you another chip if you want to replace it yourself. Biostar is a knock off msi board if I remember right it has been awhile since I used them. I use mainly ASUS boards and I know they offer this service.

Just get a new board... I think the last time I bought an ASUS board (middle of the road board) it cost $120. By the time you're finished mailing, shipping and reprogramming this chip, my guess is that you will be getting up there on the bill anyway.

The new boards are coming with flash protection anyway.

You could get a local repair shop to reflash it for you.

Try a bootblock recovery. You have nothing to lose.

You can get a new socket-A board for $20.00 at Fry's Outpost.
