headset problems!

hey all my problem is probly simple but im too nnoob to be able to work it out :| i just got a new head set. it has a mic too. its not USB its got the pink and black plugs to go into sound card. or in my case just the mobo.. so i plug it in...and the soundcomes out but the mic doesnt work. i tried it in so many different configuartions and checked if anythings muted and stuff but still...nothin apreciate the help.. thanks

you have to go to sound control, then options -> properties , recording, and here only one checkbox can be checked, make sure the box under microphone is checked, and the volume is max
