HDs from vista work in xp?

Specs: windows xp, amd phenom quad 2.3ghz
Currently formatting my primary hard drive to install XP because Vista wont boot and some boot software i've never heard of or installed (intentionally) is popping up failing to load Vista then trying to find XP on a partition that shouldn't exist. Tried re-installing vista booting from the disc, does the exact same thing as soon as it resets. So plan is, I have 2 secondary hard drives with a lot of music stuff like Ableton live recorded sessions etc. that I don't want to loose so i've disconnected them from the mobo before formatting began. My question is, now that i'm reinstalling XP (a decision I was in the process of making to benefit from more stability and compatibility for vsts, vstis, controller surfaces, audio cards and daws, this partition nonsense tipped the decision in XPs favour) will the secondary hard drives that I added after Upgrading to Vista be recognised and will they be usable by XP or does Vista have its own way of formatting things that renders the hard drives unusable with anything else? They are internal hard drives by the bye.

You MAY need to take ownership of the files/ folders. If that is necessary then look at the link below to learn how.
