HDMI to DVI (PC), how to do audio?

Specs: xp sp2, 3gb

Okay, I just got a new 32inch lcd tv and i hooked it up to my PC through HDMI to dvi. and my pc has speakers on it, i know DVI doesnt carry audio, so i plugged in a cable that has a red and white audio pair, and on the other side, it hooks up to your audio port in the pc (i believe its called a 3.5mm jack), I hooked it up from every single rca slot on my tv to the comp, i tried messing with the computer settings, still no sound comes from the speakers in the tv, but speakers work fine when i use it on ps3 cause its just hdmi on the ps3. so how am i going to make this work

Please make sure that HDMI and RCA jacks on the TV set work together. I mean they are on the same circuit. You may have connected DVI to HDMI for picture but 3.5 mm jack to RCA connectors for component video input or s-video input.

Other than that, if you play a CD or DVD and do not get sound, then make certain that either digital audio is enabled or you have analog cable running from DVD player to the sound card.

Therefore, please clarify if you get audio from TV speakers when you play mp3 on the hard disk.

there is no dvd player, its just a tv with speakers, there is the HDmi slots then there are 2 RCA AUDIO (RED and white) slots and i believe they are supposed to be audio output, all the other rca slots are for like component cables and such. I dont get any sound from the TV speakers when i play an mp3 from my pc

What I mean is a CD or DVD drive of the PC, not a standalone DVD player for the TV set.

O.K. when you play mp3 from the hard drive, you do not get sound from TV speakers. What happens when you connect PC speakers to your PC ? Can you try that ?

There are several 3.5 mm jacks at the back of the sound cards. Are you sure you connect the sound cable to the correct 3.5 mm jack for sound output and not to the mic jack ?

Maybe your cable is defective or TV speakers off or sound is muted on the PC side.

Can you try different inputs on the TV set while an mp3 song is playing on the PC until you hear the song from the TV speakers ?

My guess is that the input to HDMI ( picture from PC ) and the input to sound ( from PC ) are not connected to each other on the TV set.

ive already tried all the inputs, but your guess may be right but im not sure why, because there are 2 sides on the tv, 1 side has the 2 HDMI slots and 1 rca pair. the other side has all the rca pairs and compenent pairs from input 1-5. and on the picture it says that the ones next to the hdmi are audio output, this is so confusing

Can you point me to the on-line manual of your TV set ? A link, if possible.
