I was cleaning up my shop & going thru some old "junk" that I have laying around. I pulled out an old Quantum Bigfoot 2.5gb HDD (5 1/4") that I had marked "bad?" I had a board on my bench that I'd been testing, so I hooked up the Bigfoot to see what would happen. It was correctly recognized in the BIOS but it wouldn't boot. I popped in a Win98 start disk, booted & ran FDISK, then selected option 4 (display info). The volume label had a bunch of odd characters, one of them being a smiley face! I assume this is some sort of virus? I couldn't delete the partition because it asks to enter the volume label to confirm deletion & how do I key in a smiley face? LOL! Any suggestions?

x86,

Any idea if will work with my HDD or is it designed to work with Samsung drives only? I'll download the file & give it a shot when I get home anyway...I've got nothing to lose...the drive is worthless as it is!

Thanks.

Most gard drive manufacturers have an equivalent program, that will write zeros to every sector on the drive.

I did some searching & apparently Maxtor's software is compatible with Quantum hard drives...so if what x86 suggested doesn't work, I'll give PowerMax a shot...
