hdd uninstall worries

I shall be swopping a hard drive and please would someone tell me if uninstalling a disk will delete the files on it. It would be useful if it is possible to retain it as an archive.

No, the data stays on the harddrive. It works like a music or video tape only it doesn't save to a tape but a couple of magnetised disks.

Just make sure you don't put it near a magnet!

BTW:
As long as you already have 4 ide devices you can keep the old harddrive as a secondary drive.
AND make sure your board supports the size of the new drive. With a Pentium2 board it's likely that the bios only supports drives up to certain size. Common are 8,4GB and 32GB.
There maybe a bios update for your board or you have to download the overlay software from the new harddrive manufacturers site.
Use the overlay software only if there is no bios update for that drivesize!
