Ok i got my system custom built at a retailer, i mean i chose the parts and everything, but i noticed that in the boxes from the parts they gave me, there was a hard drive tray lying around.

Shouldn't it be installed in the case, holding the hard drive? was it right that it was removed to install the hard drive?
or did they make a mistake?

my case is ANTEC SONATA 2 piano black

im worried, please help/

Not sure what you have, but it 'might' be an adapter to install a hard drive in a 5 1/4" 'external' slot. Hard drives are normally installed in 3 1/2" 'internal' slots and the adapter (if that's what it is) is not needed.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

The hard drive should go in a internal tray in the case, if you open it up (the case) you see your hard drive attached to the case with screws.

Now, my case (also antec) has a remobable caddy that holds all the hard drives, maybe thats the one you have? what does this "tray" look like?

and just to make sure, here's a picture of your actec sonata

Do you see your hard drive attached to your case, because probably, that tray (the one you found) is if you want to add another HD, so it's basically a spare.

I personally dont think "they" made a mistake (maybe I'm wrong). It would be noticeable, you would see the hd dangling around the case.

if truth be told, im not even supposed to open the case. The technicians put stickers with the logo of the retailer that attach the removable side to the case and say, and i quote, "Warranty void if removed".

"because probably, that tray (the one you found) is if you want to add another HD, so it's basically a spare"

but how does that make sense if there are 4 more drive bays for adding extra hdds
