My computer has started to experience problems. Running windows xp pro. Every now and then the computer freezes or crashes with a blue screen stop message.

Have to turn the machine off to restart.

On restarting xp always runs windows check scanrepairing and fixing files and generated bad sectors unreadable.

replaced hdd with another sata II. Install xp ok and starts up fine. But now every time I restart the computer windwos always runs check disk. And rebuilds deletes and recovers a number of files.

And the summary said its already got a timy small amount of bad sectors.

my machines specifications are as follows.
Amd XP 2600+ cpu
1.5 gigabyte of DDR400 Ram (3 x 512mb)
PCI SATA controller
Seagate 300gb Sata HDD
IDE DVD writer.

I suspect the problems are related to the hard disk. But since I have tried another drive but still experiencing the same problems. Could the Pci controller also be part of the problem? Any ideas on whats going on would greatly be appreciated.

Any chance your PSU could be inadequate?

Im running an omni 500watt power supply.

Its just running Motherboard
1 x Ide 250gb hdd
1 x Sata 300gb
1 x lg dvd writer
1 x Floppy

I don't think I am overloading the power supply. Unless SATA drive draw more power than older ATA IDE drives
