i have a Maxtor HDD and it is locked by a password, any ideas about how to unlock it or reset the pass. I do not need the info inside i just want to use the HDD again.

Zero Filling should do the trick.
Use Maxtor PowerMAx.

I do not think you have to go so far as the zero filling, Dark suggests.
Instead try a low level format.
The utility program to do this should be downloadable from the Maxtor website.
Advise how you get on.

Unfortunatly the password is not on the platters at all,formating if you can even get that far will do nothing to unlock the drive. Without the password the hard drive is a paperweight unless you want to spend big bucks($400 or more) to have a company unlock that drive.
