Hi, I'm curious about something... can anybody find technical descriptions of these „Externel disk mutimedia players“? I'd like to know whats in the box (enclosure) and how it works. So far I can only find sales info. and operation instructions. Grateful for any info

External disk multimedia players are pretty much an external HDD with any kind of multimedia decoding. Its a long winded name for Mp4 players, there's so many with so many different combinations of 'players' or decoders and HD's, ramdrives, extensions for microSD etc that it is confusing. Usually the specs and details are listed for each brand by the manufacturer. To get deeper inside of them at the e-prom, this is where the basic system is stored much like the BIOS of a computer it holds the info about the mini operating system, there are different OS's apples Ipod is different from Creative and each offer a slightly different experience much like Windows98 is different to RedHat. The EPROMs on them can be flashed with software to improve or experiment. What makes them 'players' rather then just external drives is that they have audio and video software decoders; like VLC or Winamp which decode .avi and .mp3 file's on computers; with hardware on the micro scale acting as video and sound cards. These provide the 'player' with the ability to turn all the stored 0 and 1's into music or video. Other things inside include batteries which add portable to the whole mix and can be recharged by usb, often these can be replaced to for hobby or repair. Platen hard drives from 1.8" up to 3.5" and RAM drives are the data storage methods. Both vary in capacity from 20MB to 80GB sizes. There are inputs for micro-SD cards for even more storage and the mini-USB cable. Plug into a computer and transfer the files, flash firmware, defrag and format the player basically like you would a regular drive. Did you want to know more about them or something specific?
