Tick tock and the hd just struck midnight!
When a hd starts going it ticks or grinds. If smart drive is loaded a message of impending failure comes up.
It sounds like it is dead. Hope you made backups or didn't have too much important information on it.
Bummer....

The hard drive has failed. Hope you made backups. Try booting from another hard drive and see if you can see the one that failed. Also you can do the freezer trick....look it up on the internet.
