Specs: Windows XP/Vista
Okay hey Guy's. I've wanted to get vista, so i went to dicksmith and brought it. now i install Ultimate. it begins.. (I already Checked to Se If My System Can Handle It, and it CAN!) And when it gets to 84% on the first part of the instalation, it comes up with a Error Code! "error code:0x80070017". Now, i Decided To Have Alook On Some Site's To See how to fix my problem. Apparently there's something to do with a HDD Chord? So i opened up my pc, had a look and i found a small long chord that has a small sticker near the end, that Says: HDD. It Isn't Plug Into Anywhere, and im wondering: Where Do I Plug it Into. What Can i Do To Fix This Error? All Help Is Greatly Appreciated! Thank's ~Harley.

That error could mean anything - Windows is known for ambiguous error codes.

Try these:
-Get a hard drive test tool and see if your hard drive has bad sectors.
-Swap CD drives to make sure your drive isn't bad
-Exchange your Windows disc for a new one to make sure it's not defective - alternatively, try copying all content to another computer and see if you get errors reading it.

If you've gotten up to 84%, it's not because your hard drive isn't plugged in!

During the install select to delete the current partition, then repartition and format the drive and proceed with the install.

More information would be usefull, are you upgrading from XP or doing a clean install, how many partitions or drives and how much free space.
Are you running it from XP or booting with the DVD?
Which Ultimate have you purchased? Upgrade or Full retail as these are the only ones Dick Smith's list that can be used on your XP system.
Unless you perchased the wrong upgrade, the one listed as Microsoft Windows ANYTIME Upgrade Pack, this is distinguished by the green triangle on the left of the front cover. Maybe you didn't see the small print that says "Premium to Ultimate"

"So i opened up my pc, had a look and i found a small long chord that has a small sticker near the end, that Says: HDD."

The cable you describe here is probably a SATA cable; if your hard drive is connected with a PATA cable (a wide ribbon cable), then you don't need to worry.

Something else you might try: clean your Windows CD with a soft, dry cloth and a little Windex. It may not help, but I actually had this work one time when I was installing Win XP Home on a PC I had built. Apparently there were light smudges or film on the CD that rendered it unreadable by the drive. Like I said, it may not help, but it's worth a try.
