I had my computer built for a while running without a problem, then my HD broke,(had case open and something hit it, made it skip etc..)
Since then I have purchased a new HD, I bought a Western Digital 80GB 7200, I have had no success installing Win XP onto it.

What I am trying to do: Install Win XP pro onto the new HD and have this comp start off fresh.

I have tried many things and different messages while loading in DOS are: BOOT FAILURE or DRIVE NOT READY.

Each time preceding those messages is:
Searching For Boot Record From CDROM...Not Found
Searching For Boot Record From IDE-0...Not Found
Searching For Boot Record From Floppy...Not Found

Basically what I need is any advice, tips or any facts or instructions that could be even the slightest bit helpful. Thanks.

Hi Lee

Have you tried booting up with the XP CD ?
To enable booting from the CDROM, go into BIOS and set CDROM to be the first in the boot sequence.
Once the PC boots to the CD, Windows setup will proceed, just follow the screen prompts.

Good luck

Double check the jumper setting printed on top the drive...Western Digital has separate settings for Master (alone) or Master (with slave). Check your BIOS to make sure the new HDD is being detected properly as the Master, & make sure your 1st boot device is set to CD-ROM. Have the WinXP CD in the drive when you bootup & watch for a prompt to boot off the CD (if it doesn't start automatically). I don't know what your plans are, but you might wanna partition your drive....

I did all of those things already, but thanks anyway.

-The HDD is being detected properly, the jumpers are all in correct, and I have the winXP CD int he drive waiting. I have the CDROM as 1st to boot. Any other ideas?

If you still get this trying to boot "Searching For Boot Record From CDROM...Not Found" that idicates to me, the bios is going to CD first to read but that it can not find a bootable CD in the drive.
1)The winxp cd could be bad or dirty -try booting up a different comp with cd.
2) The IDE cable is bad.

You have only 1 hdd and 1 cd in comp?
I think the 80g hdd recuires a 80 wire 40 pin IDE cable to work. if you are useing a 40 wire 40 pin IDE cable it might also cause problems with cd.?

You could try removeing the hdd and try to get comp to boot with cd.
