Comment: I originally posted this question in the Win98 forum, but I may be hardware question also. I have a 13 gig hard drive and I pay close attention to how much space I have used. I have had this computer for 3 years and the used space has never gotten bigger then 3 gigs. Over the last few weeks when I check the HD space the used space is decreasing and the free space is increasing. I haven't deleted or unistalled any programs, actually, I have loaded more programs and the free space is still getting larger. I scan disk, defrag and virus scan once a week. Has anyone ever seen this? Is there a better way to check the amount of HD space other than checking the properties on my HD? Thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)Sounds like something bad.... My quess would be either you have some bad sectors on your hard drive that are getting worse as the days go by,or a really bad virus. But I could be way off on this......

Reply: (edit)well if u dont really have anything important in ur pc...then maybe u could try formatting ur pc...or maybe making the partition again....i however agree with Andy over his views on this....since u've done disk defrag...i think u could view if there'z any bad sectors.....

Reply: (edit)Another thing it could be.. have you checked to see if your computer is doing any "free space" clean ups.. such as temp internet files or maybe it may be compressing your "old" files to save space.. what OS are you running?
