It is possible that your Hard Drive could be going down failure lane. It could also be that your Windows XP Disc is damaged. If you look at the bottom of the CD, are there any scratches on it?

Mouse could not be found. Click OK to continue.
What to do now?

Some poor connection. ESD damage to the system. ESD damage to memory.

Can't see how changing a fan requires a reload of the OS???

Bad fan could have let system overheat.

Might get ultimate boot cd and run memtest and hard drive diags.

Assuming you have a SATA HDD, are you loading the SATA drivers? XP won't recognize the drive without them, or you'll need to change the BIOS setting to "IDE mode".

If there was no problem with the system other than a noisy fan before you took it to the tech then take it back and demand they repair it. I suspect the drive is not getting a good connection to the motherboard. Does it connect directly to a header on the motherboard or is there a ribbon cable? The cable may have been damaged or partly dislodged. ESD ( static discharge) may have caused some damage but any trained tech would have taken precautions when working on your system. The boot failure mentioning exiting PXE rom is typical of a system that cannot see the hard drive and is attempting to boot off a network connection as last resort.
