my main hd is making weird clicks...no i didnt open it! i didnt open the computer for weeks on top of that, so no cabling or jumper changes. its a 30gb, 7200rpm seagate. my computer cant even boot into the os. sometimes it detects the drive during auto detection in post, or whatever, sometimes it doesnt, but when i turn the power on, the drive does these weird clicks like every 3 seconds...and seldomly sounds like it doing some kinda work. in the meantime the computer is trying to boot or pass auto detection.

Well what Id do is make a backup of everything first!(if not already done?) Then Id do a low-level format and then reinstall just your OS then see what happens and if still there send it back if ya can and if ya think you cant send it back try anyways sometimes you get lucky...Jim

Your hard drive is dying mate. I f not dead already. The clicking is BAAAAAAD news. If it won't even boot up now, I wouldn't think you are gonna have an easy task of recovering the data. Ii it is still in warranty (check the top of th4e hard drive, for warranty details) send it back and they will replace it for you.

All may not be lost, if you act early and stop powering the drive up as this will probably crash the drive dead. Try www.computer-recovery.com they can resolve this type of problem and recover any important data thet you may have
