Hd isent reconized and cant boot in

OK so i was given this laptop to me and he says it works but obviously not. When i try to boot into windows the screen just goes blank. but when i try booting with safemode it works fine..SO then i was just going to reformat the HD but when i get to the part where it asks if i would like to set up windows or do a recovery i fress enter to setup windows and the next screen that comes up says that there is no hardrive present please check connections and or check with manufactor for a setup disk or something along them lines. anybody help me please?

Why not perform a recovery. If the computer has a SATA hard drive you will need SATA controller drivers slipstreamed into your WinXP CD in order to install a new full version. Use the recovery function.
