In Computer Management event log I receive this error: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging operation.
I have a 250gig hd connected to an ata contoller card in the PCI slot. Drivers are loaded.
There are two 74 Gig. partitions on this physical disk -- C:/ & D:/.
C:/ is where the OS and Programs are. I've had no issues on C:/ drive.
D:/ is empty with the exception of sp2 backup and microsoft word update record -- "MSO Cache" folder. This is the problem partition.
In the command prompt I ran chkdsk D: /r and no errors were found.
My paging file system is on partition C:/. On drive D:/ paging is off. This PC has 1.5gig's RAM, I don't even need paging.
Why am I getting this error? What Can I do to get rid of it? If I have to delete D:/ will my C:/ still be able to boot?

"I have a 250gig hd connected to an ata contoller card in the PCI slot." Is that ATA card 48bit LBA compatible? If not, that could be the problem.
"If I have to delete D:/ will my C:/ still be able to boot?"
Yes.
Yes, the ATA card is 48bit LBA compatible.
I have no guess as to the problem. But you say that you have 2 74GB partitions. That doesn't add up to 250GB. I wonder why you aren't using it all.
Are you running at least WinXPSP1?
Yeah, I knew when I read it that 250gig HD was incorrect, it is 150gig. As stated above:
D:/ is empty with the exception of sp2 backup and microsoft word update record -- "MSO Cache" folder. This is the problem partition.I'm running sp2
Also, the HD's are internal and IDE 40pin correctly set to master and slave.
I would say that it almost has to be something with Word since it seems to be the only data on that drive that might be accessed. Maybe you should try the 'Office Software' forum.
There are no word documents on that partition, only the update to MS Word program. I have not updated MSWord for a long time and I don't believe it has anything to do with the issue at hand:
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging operation.
Do you have at least SP1 installed?
Getting page faults on a drive where there are no files being accessed is pretty hard to explain.
Amen Brother
disable the paging file, restart, then re-enable it evenly on C and D make each drives paging file 1152 big, restart - you should be set - if not just pull off a format we all know microcrap *cough* i mean soft doesnt care about the quality of his software :)
