Hi guys,

This might be a silly question but is it possible to connect all the hard drives through an ATA/100 card (including the boot drive)?

I would love to have all my hdds running at their max. speed. Thanks!

Yes, I'm doing that right now on one system. Both hard drives are connected to a Promise TX2 PCI controller. The onboard controller is enabled, but is only being used for a DVDRom and a CD-RW drive. Most of the time the system boots fine using Windows XP Pro. On rare occasion (during the boot process) I get an error something like "Hardware monitor has detected an error, press F1 to continue." I press F1 and everything works fine. That error may not be related to the Promise controller I have never bothered investigating, since everything works anyway.

Note: If your separate IDE controller requires a driver for your operating system, I suggest you install it while the drive that contains your operating system is still connected to your onboard controller. Then after the driver is installed move the cable to the separate controller. Otherwise, the OS may not boot properly using the separate controller.

man.. you're lucky. I'm using win2k server and I'm having heaps of problems... For now, i only have one drive (slave) connected to an ATA/100 controller, yet, I am having such a hard time transferring data or performing simple disk operations to that drive.
I just finished installing win2k server and was trying to install sp3 and it gave me tons of error messages saying "delayed write failed" and something to this effect:
"Windows was unable to save all the data for the file {a long filename}. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."

I have the latest drivers installed for the ata card from maxtor. I read somewhere else that I have to change the UDMA channel from UDMA 6 to UDMA 5 because it cannot work at that speed. I am not sure where I can change that. Any help would be great!
