Is it possible to have 2 computers hooked up to one monitor. I don't mean having the computers ON at the same time, but just having them both hooked up so I can turn on either computer and use the monitor. Is this possible? If so, how would I go about doing that?

yes, my friend does that. you can use a monitor switch (they also have keyboard switches and mice switches). basically you connect both computers to the switch, and the monitor to the switch. When you flip the switch, you can switch from one computer to another.

My friend has a server...so it really doesn't need a monitor...he uses the monitor switch to switch to it when he needs to, but he mainly keeps it on his regular pc

So if you want, you can have both computers on at the same time

In AUstralia one can buy a good 15" monitor for around $300.

A 'switch' accomodates two [or more PC] to one Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor. NICE.

Price is not nice: 2 times that of a monitor.

If you have the real estate save some money and buy a new or better still used monitor.

Monitor switches are not expensive. I have seen as cheap as 30 dollars.

A switch box saves having a mouse+keyboard AND monitor for every PC! I have four PC's but only one mouse+KB+monitor. So its not just the cost you need to look at but how BIG your table is :o)

Do not use a switch box!!

What a great way to destroy a monitor.

I know, I was on my third monitor before I clued in and bought a KVM.

I found the switch box was a rotary manual knob, the copper was peeling and smearing across the leads, this burnt out either the red or green or blue gun after a couple of weeks. :^(

Use an electronic switch, more expensive but "miles" safer.

If you can't get a low-cost (140-200 Can$) KVM switch then buy a used monitor.
