Hi everyone. I am building my first computer and I'm looking for some good Hardware test software for each component as well as some burn in software. Although I am willing to spend money on a particularly good piece of software I would prefer OSS/free stuff. I was already going to run Memtest-86, I had a good HDD tester at one point but lost it. Is there software for testing CPU, Motherboard (including integrated audio/video), Video Card, HDD, PSU, Optical Drives that anyone can recommend? Thanks for any help.

For hard disk testing go to the hard disk manufactures web site and download their diagnostic software. That will give the hard disk a thorough test. Mestest-86 is probably the best memory tester.

There not much you can do with video card, sounds card or optical drives and CPU. They either work or they don't. Using them for the purpose they were designed is probably the best test you can do.

There is no software that will test a power supply other than record the output voltages which doesn't really mean all that much.

I've used this for years. It does check almost every component of your computer.

Very thorough. Some of the memory tests can take some time, but it's well worth the bucks. Will check your hd controller, video mem the whole nine yards.

And you can make a portable cd or floppy to carry with you. Very handy.
