OS: Windows ME
CPU/Ram: PIII 1.2GHz, 512MB
Product: IBM Thinkpad X30
Comment:

hi!

i have an ibm thinkpad X30, and i've put windows me on it (don't start a flame war. when windows me is configured correctly, it is an awsome OS). the only trouble i'
m having is figuring out what hardware i have left to install!

here's a pic of the device manager (i've reduced the color to 8-bit so it loads faster.

-->

my question is, seeing's how everything else seems to be installed (video, nic, audio, 1349, pcmcia, etc), what could those two unknown devices be? i can't think of anything else (except for that compact flash slot on the side of the laptop, but i think it's managed by the pcmcia bus, and it should be already installed)?

help! thx!

Custom Build:
Pentium 4 3GHz 1MB L2
1GB DDR400 2-Channel RAM
2x80GB WD SATA HDD RAID0
DVD+/-RW CDRW DVD-RAM

Are you installing Me from a restore disc, or the Windows CD? Have you downloaded all the drivers from IBM's site related to the laptop?

Can you right click on "unknown device" and maybe get an explanation on what type of hardware it is?

I haven't tried this program but it is supposed to identify those unknown devices. Find it here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3...

well, i ran that program, real handy, but i looked through each item that said "windows detected device" (which i am assuming what windows thinks the device is, and also that if it says unknown, then that would be the device in question)

in any case, each item had an association with it, which means that according to the program, windows has detected everything, but it obviously hasn't.

what should i do?

If everything seems to be running properly then you could simply go to device manager right click the unknown item> properties> disable in this profile.
Sometimes there are two identifiers on one piece of hardware. This may be the case here.

hmm. it could be one device then? i haven't tried installing a cisco mini pci wifi adapter driver yet, but i really doubt it has wifi (it doesn't have bluetooth either).

i'll try it tonight after work, and post back to let ya know if it works. if it doesn't, should i just disable those devices in the hardware profile? i don't what to put XP on this thing for the sake of 2 devices
