I have a Realtek RTL 8139/810 x Fam Nic PCI Fast Earthlink installed on this new computer but I have Dial Up with a modem,I have been told to disable this in my Bios, so that the computer will not keep telling me it is not connected....CAN I DISABLE IT but not remove it? in the Bios, I have disabled it in the control panel but still keeps reminding me its not working which I don't want it to because I have dial up. Any info will be appreciated.

u want to disable it even hide it but not remove it from the bios. but even so... if u have an Ethernet card and a modem they should not bother u. unless u set up the Ethernet card and are using the modem incorrectly. I would tell u to install new driver updates and then just disable the card from the device manager and make sure u remove all protocols that are on the card but don't delete the protocols on the modem good luck :)

I don't think I have a card, I think its a adapter? I truly don't even understand it, I do have it disabled in the control panel, don't know where the protocol is? I will try to hide it instead of disabling it in the Bios. Thanks Sue

There is an option to enable/disable onboard NICs in the BIOS. Try hitting delete when first booting the computer and enter the BIOS. pay attention to what the screens say and don't change anything except the network adapter. Save and exit. The keys used to negociate are Enter, Esc, Pg.UP/Dn, and arrow keys.
Summary: There is little reason for you to do this. You should have just left it as it was. Before you do that you should remove (not just disable) the device from the operating system. See system properties...
