If you have the compaq with harddrive problems. I hope you don'nt buy a IBM,compaq, bell,HP I'm sure there are others that when they brake down it's very difficult to fix. like you need their stuff to make it work. Radio Shack went too far and got sued-put them out. Any way My compaq harddrive died and noway to access bios to set new drive cylinders. It recognizes some 120 or 40mb Hd (thanks Compaq) The access F10 I got from compaq help. It will not make a partition on new drive because wrong type of drive. 2.1 gig instead of 1.9 gig.Drives are identical in every make year etc. Only way I could get computer to work is use old drive as slave. Without that bad drive on cable the computer will not boot to nothing, including floppy. Now it tells me the bad drive is is about to crash. and everythird time it finds that drive and will reset the bios. If I use exporer it looks at Drive D; and locks computer up. I'm using internet with it now. I think to put that F10 partition on the HD it has to be empty(puts hidden file at beginning of drive. My harddrive I guess had the beginning of it bad (would not format) I partitioned 27% out and made extended partition and make active. Well then computer would not boot from this because it saw it as a network or somthing. I had to put it one partition then I dropped it 15 ". I is really dead now. But at lesat I can use the computer. C is good drive D is bad drive. Every time I boot up it says F1 to boot. Compag 2000 compaqpro series.Hdrive prople boot only to F1. Need to get rid of bad drive so it will not lock computer up all the time. 166mghz 1996
