No. Two drives per interface is the limit.

However, as most computers have two internal IDE interfaces, you can in fact have up to four internal hard drives/Optical drives before you need to start installing extra IDE adaptors.

well, my cousin has 2 HD, one is master and the other is the slave. but my math professor, hes a gamer, told me he got a 120gb USB 2.0 external HD and one 80gb internal HD in the PC. and he only stores the neccesary softwares to the internal HD, all the games, movies, musics, and stuffs like that are stored to the external HD, this way it doesnt slow down the pc and the PC boots up faster, and the game performance is smoother.

Wins 98 SE, intel celeron 450MHZ, 128MB pc 100.
6GB HD. ATI rage 128.
24x cd-rom. 8x2x8 cd-rw.

All very interesting Rax, but what has that got to do with the orginal question.

Actually, a USB drive will slow things down. USB drives are considerably slower than internal drives as they have an extra layer of hardware and software to go through.

If the drives are set up correctly, it won't slow things down as most of the stuff that actually slows down a computer has to go on the internal drive - like the operating system, drivers and dynamic link libraries.

Stuart is exactly correct...USB is slower than IDE.

And just to add, whenever possible, it's best to separate HDDs.

"my cousin has 2 HD, one is master and the other is the slave"

The HDD w/OS should be the primary master, but it would be best to put the 2nd HDD on the 2ndary channel.

Hellz Yea!

The other answer to the question is you can have as many USB external HD as you like (total composition must be 23)
