Hi all,
last wednesday my computer was hit by lightning, nothing was good anymore. Is there a way to repair the HD or take of all data? A test computer doesn't see the harddrive anymore.

Does the drive spin up? A test computer may not be compatible with the drive size. Chances are if you have the drive properly configured in the BIOS and properly cabled and jumpered, then it may be a lost cause unless you want to send it to a data recovery service. Chances are you wouldn't want to pay what that might cost. If the drive spins up then post back with the drive size and what vintage test computer you tried it in.

The problem could also be that it's an NTFS drive and the test system is Win9X. Win9X system cannot read NTFS drives.

Hi Othehill,
i can't answer on your questions as my harddrive was tested in a computerstore and hope they know what they are doing.
Yes i want to consider to send it to an data recovery center if the price is right.I'm not sure but believe the drive is spinned when they were testing Drive size is 40Ghz.

That doesn't sound promising then. I thought you tested the drive. If a 40GB isn't showing in the POST screens then that could be a problem. Most likely the controller is toast. Look on the right side of the screen we are on. There is an ad for data recovery software. Not sure if anything can be retreived if the drive isn't spinning up. I understand that there are companies that dismantle the drive, remove the platters and try recovering that way. Much cash to do that.
