Harddrive Smoke

I used this old 9 GB hard drive (from 1999) and since the past year it has been making funny noises and it will not boot or be dected by the Bios.
Well I tried it again today at first it worked ok (for about 1 minute) then there was that noise again and there was a disk write error. So then I decieded to open it (and I know this can ruin the hard drive but it can not get much worse). I tipped it some how and this littlw white bag came out it looked like a salt bag they but in shoe boxes but it was plastic and much smaller. I though maybe this thing was getting in its way and thats why it was not working than I turned it on without this bag and it started to smoke. A Circut on the bottom of the HD looks like it melted. Well THat hard drive is now garbage, but does nayone know what that small bag was. This was a Quartirm Fireball That was the maker of the HD.

Since the HD is trash, take it apart and get the magnets out of it. These things are so strong that when you put them on your refrigerator you can't get them off again.
