Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate x64, 2.997 GHz / 4094 MB
When running certain graphics intensive games, I will experience a hardware lock. It is seemingly random, and can happen within five minutes to five hours of playing.

I have,
two NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTs
2x2GB OCZ DDR3 ram
3.00 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo
850W PSU

Could it be your monitor?

What do you mean by that? How could my monitor cause locks?

Describe 'hardware lock'. Can you recover using the Task Manager, by rebooting or do you have to power off?

I just solved my recent case of this.

Check these first:

PSU amperage on the 12V rails. (9800GTs need ~26A each)
1 stick of ram at a time.
1 video card at a time.
Check for sufficient air flow.

My fix was a new MB....should be a last resort though.

Hard lock as in, I must restart the computer. It does not respond whatsoever to any method to recover.

How can I go about testing the amperage on the rails?
