Comment: If I had a choice between Seagate, Western Digital, IBM, and Maxtor hard drives, which one would be the best pick?

Reply: (edit)I always had good luck with Seagate and Western Digital, Ibm I think is slowly going away if not has stopped making drives. make sure you get one with a good warranty.

Reply: (edit)I really like western digital and maxtor. both also come with easy software. I don't think you can go wrong with either of these.

Reply: (edit)I have always liked the Western Digital drives. They are regularly developed and have good tech support. And very easy to install and setup. Have never had one problem with the 6 or 7 drives of theirs I've owned. Also, their prices are good. They have a 200 GB with 8 MB buffer just out now for around $250. A very nice hard drive! Have heard many bad things about IBM's drives lately. They may be exiting soon.

Reply: (edit)I agree , I installed a Western Digital with the extra buffer on a friends computer running Athalon 700 and it worked very nice it gave the Athalon an extran speed jump.If you check out the specs they compare it to a 10krpm scsi drive. Very nice drive recomend it.

Reply: (edit)Seagate was pretty much the first hard drive manufacturer, but quality has gone down with them. IBM has quit manufacturing hard drives so support will not be good. I am a fan of Western Digital. I have one 60gb and one 80gb 7200rpm and they are solid performers. I would still like to replace them with the Caviar edition which is top of the line.
