Hello all, I have a question and I hope somebody can help me with an answer: I have a 7598 Compaq Presario Computer year 2000, I'll like to upgrade my hard drive:Generic IDE Disk 34 GB, I get some more information: Disk Controllers: Intel(r)82801 AA Ultra ATA controller, Primary IDE controller (dual fifo), secondary IDE controller (dual fifo).

And I'll like to upgrade to: 250 GB Caviar Special Editon WD 2500JD Internal Serial ATA 7200 RPM ATA-150, or, 200 GB Diamond Max Plus Internal EIDE Ultra ATA/133 7200 RMP 8 MB Cache. Can somebody tell me if I can upgrade to any of this hard drives?

to the first one surely not! you don't have SerialATA connectors on your motherboard (yr 2000). There's a chance that the second one is good, but i assume it will not work on ATA133, it has to work on ATA100, because thats what your motherboard support..

Buy a SATA card to go with the first choice. The SATA drives ARE pretty slick, and great performers.

I believe that another concern may be wheather or not your BIOS will support a H.D. of that size ,you may need to update your firmware in the BIOS by flashing it. Try checking with the company that supplied the BIOS for your system.

You have to find out if your mb supports 148 (kb?) addressing. There is a limit of 137 gb for boards that only support 128 (kb?) addressing. There are updates for some boards check with your manufacturer. Google on hard drive size limits for more info. Hope this helps.
