I was wondering if it was possible to take a HD from a computer that is not working (HD is still working I guess) and transfer that information to a working computer??

Ya i dont see any problem with that, just make sure that you set your jumper properly if you already have a hard drive on the 2nd computer. ( i would set both jumpers to cable select and let p.o.s.t figure out which one contains the system boot)
Ever Wonder Y things are the way they are??

you should set the new HDD as the master and the old one as slave. some would suggest to also not put them on the same cable either

OMG, NO! Never use cable select...EVER!
Just temporarily connect the 2nd HDD to the 2ndary channel. If it's alone on the cable, set the jumper to master...if it's with another device, set it to slave. Then just boot up & copy the files to the 1st HDD or if possible, burn them to a disc
