Comment: Hello I really need some help. I have a Packard Bell 486ES computer, It is quite old but runs well. About 2 months ago, I went to boot it and I got a Fixed Disk 0 error. There was also an unfamiliar noise coming from inside, and the HDD LED Light was blinking on and off at a stedy rate. I figured that the Hard Drive broke, so I went on ebay to buy a new one, I bought a 1.2 gig Hard drive. Quantum 1280AT to be exact. I put it in, connected the cables, (which I have double checked many times) and started it up. I get the same error, fixed disk 0 failior, so I go into the setep utility. I had a copy of the drive parameters, heads, sectors and all those. So I entered them. The only problem is it tells me to enter a longer number like 65535 in the PRE column, but only 6553 will fit.... this could be the problem, as of now I still get the same error. Please Help! Thanks in advance Michael mvuolo@msn.com

Reply: (edit)my suggestion would be this. go into the BIOS and select the harddrives to be set on Auto. and load the defaults for the BIOS. Next replace the Cable that connects your HD to your Motherboard.
