Hi all,

I ve been having problems reformatting my hard drive to reinstall XP and taken to trying to completely erase it using KILLDISK. I tried this yesterday, and whilst trying to use the ‘Scan Partition’ function got a ‘error reading disk structure’ message. The process itself also didn’t complete, and seemed to crash at around 25% complete a number of times.

Preceeding this my pc crashed and refused to boot, and I got a CMOS check sum error. Does this sound like a knackered hard drive? I ve used simmtester to check it and that program says its ok.

Any advice before I splash out the hard-earned on new one….

Why not just go to the hard drive maunfacturer's website & download their software? Western Digital's software is called Data Lifeguard, Maxtor's is called MaxBlast...with it you can format, partition, run diagnostics/make repairs, & write zeros to the drive (low level format).

I agree with Jam!
I thing you damaged the the partition table so it can't be read anymore. The manufacturers diagnostic software will either help or at least tell you it's really gone bad!

Good Luck!
