I recently bought a used dell laptop (big mistake on my part). When I turn it on, a grey screen comes up and asks me for a hard drive password. It says it is protected by some sort of hard drive authentication. I'm not really sure what to do with it. I was hoping someone could tell me how to bypass it somehow.

If it's a bios password then you may be able to open it up and disable it, have a search about on google etc.

On desk top PC's (may be the same for laptops, I'm not sure) if you take the CMOS battery out until it powers down completely - this can take quite some time, 12 hrs plus - the CMOS memory is lost and so will the password, this just means that you have to manually put in things such as the time etc...
