Comment:

I have put an 80gb 2nd drive into a p3 machine, but doesn't seem to be picked up.
I can see it in device manager but not in my computer.
It comes up with maxtor on boot up screen as it picks up the other drives.
In bios I have it set to auto but if I do a auto detect it picks up the original 20gb but hangs after detecting 80gb drive but looks like it shows that one as 9gb.
I have tried all possible combinations with ide cables jumpers etc.

Any other ideas?

Thanks
Dave

the p-3 motherboard might not recognise 80 gig.
you will need to download an overlay bios fooling program from the manufacturer of the drive

you need to format the HDD before windows will recognise it as a use-able Disk

I don't think you needed an overlay, you needed a BIOS upgrade. Overlay programs can be troublesome...a BIOS update is the preferred route. Also, your 2nd HDD should be installed as the 2ndary slave using an 80-wire IDE cable....

You might have jiggled loose the cable going to the CD/DVD drives.

Actually, I thinkit's a good idea to put your new drive on the second channel. I would suggest the following configuration for highest speed data transfers.

C: drive on primary master
DVD drive on primary slave
D: drive on secondary master
CD/RW on secondary slave
