Ok, so i realized that i had my removable hard drive sitting on top of the subwoofer box just in time for it to have erased all my data. Im not sure after that if the data can be recollected. Does anyone have any suggestions. I would like to not loose my data. Im almost willing to pay big bucks to get it recovered but dont have that kind of money.

First of all subwoofers have magnets, magnets and computer hardware do not go well together, lesson learned. Just google data recovery tools, it should give you a list of credible data recovery tools.

asf135,

I suggest you read the following two threads that addressed the same question you asked. It's may not be the subwolfer magnets that caused your HD to lose data.

If the subwoofer has destroyed the HD it could have damaged the heads/erased the low-level formatting. if it is the latter it will be expensive to recover. Go to a data recovery place. it may be recoverable. but in the future back up your files.

It was my backup. The hard drive still spins when i plug it in. Could i not transfer the magnetic pieces containing the data into a new hard drive apparatus that has good readers?

in a word nope.
you havent pysically destroyed the disk i dont think. what youve done is taken a big eraser to all the data. think delete on a big scale.

on reflection you might have magnitised the disk housing. This is fatal because every time the disk writes and it spins the case erases the data again.

google it! wasnt the answer to the question i asked so dont be dense and give me that repl

yep the data i say is gone.
the disk might even be ruined and the housing magnatised. out of all the speakers you could pick a sub woofer is the worst. big high power and unsheilded.
you could try a recovery tool but really they can recover small errors that can be fatal using tricks. but youve created a massive massive errors and the tricks wont work. cant send it off either for some one to strip the data off it cos the data is junk.

your next step i think is put either bin the disk or you could try using it. put it to the bottom of your case away from any other drives! or remove them and only have the ruined one. then format it and put data on it not your family album of snaps that you want to keep put stuff you might not need and fill it if possible. run that disk for say a 2 months like this and periodcaly test it using the windows disk cheaker tool. if at any time it has to recover bad sectors or anything like that bin the disk! usualy disks have errors and thats ok but this is a disk thats had hard punishement and any errors mean it could fataly die any time.

there is also burn in testers that you could use but i think these would give a wrong reading as the data that they check is only on the disk for a max of say 2 mins where as if the case is magnistised it may slowly affect the disk over weeks.

my advice is if you have the patients try cheaking it over say 2-3 months. if not and can afford it bin it. if the data you use is improtant for work or school or pics of loved ones bin it! if your just gona stick play games on is then give it a go worst case scenario is you loose your save point have to reinsatll everything on a new disk.

******BEWARE THOUGH*************
this disk if it is broken is magnatised so will act like a magnet! so dont i repeat dont put it next to another disk! it would be the same as taking the magnet out the sub and putting it inside your pc next to a disk that isnt ruined.
