Hard drive missing in boot order

April 2, 2010 at 09:42:06
Specs: Windows XP
We have started computer with a CD left in CD Rom drive - only some video on the CD but now computer will not start on reboot.
Going to F10 - Compaq Setup utility I notice the Hard Drive is missing in the boot order. Any ideas on how to get the Hard Drive back into the boot order?

Changing the boot order will not hurt your system in any way if you do it correctly. If by accident you remove your hard drive from the list and save the BIOS settings, you will get a pleasant surprise when your computer reboots—a statement that the computer cannot find any operating system. If you happen to get that message, then just reboot by pressing CTRL + ALT + DELETE at the same time and go back into the BIOS settings and make sure that you select your hard drive as a boot device. Once you have done that, your system will be back to normal.

Hi Toxict51
Just tried this, but when I go back to the BIOS settings boot order in the set utility (F10) I still don't see the hard drive as an option to pick as my boot up device - Any ideas on how I can get the Hard Disk to reappear as an option on this boot up menu?
Thanks for trying so far
