Hard Drive light keeps blinking

Hi,
I'm not sure if my problem, or more of a concern, is hardware or software. I recently noticed my hard drive LED flashing constantly. Not in any given pattern such as it would keep beat but it just keeps flashing. Since I have Windows 98Se/XP/Linux on the same machine, I tried it in each and it does the same in each OS. I booted into DOS with a boot disk with and without CD-ROM support and it didnt' blink. There are two devices that I've added recently and that is a WD 7200 RPM 80GB IDE Hard Drive and a Sony DVD burner. I unhooked the DVD burner so I ruled that out. I know the light didn't use to blink when the computer is idle and it annoys me. Should I be concerned? Actually I am because I don't want it doing that. Would someone point me in the right direction to what might be causing this?

Use win98SE as a test. Shut down all running programs to see if it stops.

Try setting your power options (display properties - screen saver - power) to turn off your hard drive after the computer has been idle for a few minutes (i believe the minimum is 3 mins) when the HD is off the light shouldnt flash!
