Hard drive, horizontal or vertical?

Does it matter whether a hard drive is laying horizontaly or verticaly? My new case has the hard drive bays so that they are mounted verticaly. This is the first time I've seen where a hard drive bay like that. I never really thought whether or not it made a difference. Does it?

Actually, It doesn't matter. Just make sure you're working with 90 degree angles... either flat, on its side, on its head, etc., but never in between.

Whilst it appears a hdd will work in just about any plane (even upside down). I am reliably informed by an pc hardware engineer, who I hold in high regard, that those mounted other than the right way up horizontally have a vastly higher/quicker fail rate.
Good luck - Keep us posted.

The hdd manufacturer will specify acceptable and unacceptable orientation. Many manufacturers use the vertical orientation.
