Hard drive failure

Fujitsu laptop suddenly refused to boot up. Messages and subsequent checking through BIOS etc strongly indicated a hard drive failure. Bought new hard drive but getting same error messages which are generally no hard drive detected. Rebooting with new disc and system recovery disc gets as far as choice between loading and repair of windows. Upon selecting load it either locks or shows message no hard drive. I don't think I can hear any sound from hard drive so perhaps power failure to the hard drive. Checked connections and cables etc.

Go to drive manufacturer's web site and download diagnostic program for the drive. See if you can use it. You can also buy adapters to hook up laptop drives to IDE interface in desktop computers.
