Comment:

I upgraded my processor over the weekend to an XP 2200+. When I put the new cpu in and rebooted it recognized it as 1500+ so I rebooted went into bios and saw that the cpu clock speed was incorrect, changed it to 133 and rebooted. I took about 45 sec's to recognize the 40gb HD then the screen strated to cycle normally when black with just a cursor in the upper right hand corner. Shut down & put the old processor, same thing happened. Took out the HD put it as a slave in another pc, took a while to rcognize that drive but when it finally did and Windows came up nothing was there. Obviously I fried the drive somehow any ideas on what might have gone wrong? Any HD mircles that I could perform to get the drive back?

Thanks

Mark

It's hard to believe that you fried a HD just by replacing the processesor.
Reset your BIOS to default settings and reboot. See if that helps. Take out the BIOS battery for 15", or use the clear jumper on the mainboard (you should have one).
Post back and let us know what happened.

If you boot into the BIOS, is the HD recognized?

Yes it is recognized after a long time, but the HD size does not report correctly.

Sounds like an act of God. You must have made her angry and she zapped the drive.

I had a similar problem. Although i haven't fixed my problem yet, The slave connector on my IDE cable seems to have been damaged when i got a new case and transfered all my components to it. It would sometimes detect the drive, other times it wouldn't, and sometimes it would name it incorrectyl (ex. "Maxtor 570h6" would be named "m xt 7h6" or something like that) did you use the same IDE cables in the new comp?

Yes I did use the same cable but I also tried the drive in another computer with a different cable.
