Hi,

My system just crashed and I can't reboot it at all. When it gets to the bios it detects the HD/D but will not go any further. It comes up with the message 'Disk Error - press any key to restart' but when I press the Any key nothing the same message appears.

I have tried rebooting it but to no avail. Sometimes it won't even detect the HD/D in the bios and sometimes it will. I have tried to boot up using a boot disk but I can't get any of my boot disks to load up at all and the system just crashes at the 'Verifying DMI Pool Data' screen. I have made sure that the jumper is in the right place and that the cables are all properly inserted etc etc.

I have read that this may indicate a hard drive crash. If so, what are my options? Is it possible to restore the hd/d or is it totally fubar'd?

Thanks for your help,

James

Do you have the Windows XP cd? The cd is bootable, just set your bios to boot from the cd before the harddrive.

Booting from the cd will launch a "what do you want to do?" screen. I think there are diagnostic tools under "perform additional tasks."

If your harddrive has crashed, you will need to replace it. A data recovery service might be able to retrieve your data, but it would be expensive.

You could also try to download the disk tools from the mfr of your harddrive. These can usually be run from the floppy drive.

Try going into the BIOS, and resetting the BIOS defaults.
That might help you get past the "Verifying DMI Pool Data"
Might also change the CMOS battery, just in case !
