Hey,
Ok i ran the drive sanitiser in bios... tried to install xp... and it doesnt detect the hdd... i tried partition programs and MBR restoring and stuff but no go... please help!
I have never seen a BIOS yet that did anything to a hard drive except read it. So what exactly did you do?
Drive sanitizers are usually designed to delete everything of a hard drive prior to disposal so depending on which sanitizer you used, you may well have rendered the disk unusable. That's what sanitizers do.
Partition utilities still see its brand, size, etc. and can set MBRs and partitions for it but xp setup doesnt see it. It's HPs drive sanitizer, i used it because the xp format thing wouldnt let me finish due to some hp crap restrictions. Im reinstalling because HP wont let me update my video driver...
Mortagen, you wiped the disk clean and removed any HP recovery data on the drive. You need to go to the HP site and get the tools for installing a new hard drive.
turns out i needed a driver... to install while the windows xp setup is loading (the blue screen setup) by pressing F6 to load the driver from a floppy. Hope this helps anyone else in my situation! ^_^
