Hard Drive Designation

I have two hard dirves in my machine, C and D. My C drives was going bad so I temperary added a third one and copied all the files from c to e. I then replaced c with e but when I reboot I only have d and e. I can I rename my e drive to c so my programs will work.

No you cannot do that. You will need an imaging or transfer program. Your newhard drive should have come sith some software to transfer your old drive to the new one. It will then be recognized as C

That's right, you cannot just use windows to copy the files over. You need a special program that will also copy the Master Boot Record and other stuff.
