My drive had all of my pictures and important documents among other things, I have no idea what happend to it! There was no lightening or unsecured power outlets. All I know is that I seem to have lost 8 years of data! Please help!

Even if something happened to corrupt the operating system, you may be able to retrieve your files by connecting the drive to another PC as a "slave," or installing it in an external enclosure and plugging it into another PC with a USB cable.

Well you can just install it as a slave in to another computer . Also you can try to get it check to a technician if you think that the damage is caused By power failure. Because you might have bad hard ware already. But still hard disk might have survived and just need to be test if the files can still be retrieved.
