I'm buying a new Western Digital 120GB ATA-133 hard drive. (WD1200JB) Since it's such a large capacity hard drive, I know it'll create heat, but is a dedicated 5.25" bay cooler necessary? I mean they're cheap on eBay, but it's kind of ugly. If I should do it, I will, I'm not worried about overall system temp. since it's cooled properly. Thanks in advance

Cooling to me is one of my top priorities. I have carried my job thoughts on cooling to my home PC's. I work with quite a few Netware Servers. I feel if I can reduce the temp 5 degrees on a Servers processors I gain in the long run, longer life, less heat related problems, better efficiency and so on. If I can reduce the heat on my home PC's in the same way I should reap the same benifits. I only use methods that do not require me to cobble up my PC's in order to get them to work. That's just my take on the cooling issue.

I bought a cooler for my harddrive, as I couldn't touch it without almost burning my fingers. It's not looking that ugly, just 2 little fans blowing air along the disk and a little plastic to prevent you from putting your fingers is the fans.

If you decide to get a HDD cooler, buy the one with the massive heat sink and two fans. I have one and it does the job very nicely. I agree with the people above about cooling. All you see is a 5.25 panel with a screen. What's do ugly about that?
