my brother in law has a 2yr old e-machines pc whose onboard graphics have failed. adding a video card has not corrected the problem. bestbuy techs say a new motherboard is needed. cost is upwards of $200. the old machine has an amd cpu. he purchased a new e-machines pc with an intel cpu. the hard drive in the amd machine has some data he would like to access. can i swap the drive from the amd machine to the intel machine to access this data and make copies? can the intel pc access an amd pc hard drive?
thanks

Yes you can just cause the old computer had an AMD Doesn't make the hard drive formatt different, and theres no need to swap the drives, just set the new computers hard drive as a master on the IDE channel And the old one as a slave after you get the info off of it you can reformatt it and have extra storage space.

Just make sure that the OS is the same or compatible (NTFS will not be readable on win98 for example.) Also, if the drive was a dynamic drive(formatted with XP Pro, it cannot be seen in XP home.)

Just make the OLD drive A slave using the jumpers on the drive. They are on the bottom of the drive next to the Cable hook-ups. There should be a diagram on there showing you how to make it a slave. The Jumper just un-plugs and connects to the other Pins. Like this. : : [:] : :
