Hard disk not found message

Specs: Windows XP
"Hard Disk Test" Failed "Boot device not found" (03F0)

System diagnostics run but it states that Hard Disk Not Exist

I saw a post saying you could download Windows 7 recovery but my laptop has no disk drive. Attempted to download recovery file to flash drive and insert into laptop but this does nothing.

Open the machine and inspect the power and data cables leading to the hard-drive. Re-seat them if necessary. Hopefully that will be the problem, but if not, you'll need a diagnostics program from the manufacturer of the hard-drive (it may be that the machine has one in the BIOS setup). Downloading any kind of recovery software won't do any good if the hard-drive has completely failed---thus you need to find some sort of diagnostics utility to determine if that's the case. Many of them fit on a floppy, but with so few new machines having floppy drives, you'd have to determine a way to run it from flash or CD...
