|Open the machine and inspect the power and data cables leading to the hard-drive. Re-seat them if necessary. Hopefully that will be the problem, but if not, you'll need a diagnostics program from the manufacturer of the hard-drive (it may be that the machine has one in the BIOS setup). Downloading any kind of recovery software won't do any good if the hard-drive has completely failed---thus you need to find some sort of diagnostics utility to determine if that's the case. Many of them fit on a floppy, but with so few new machines having floppy drives, you'd have to determine a way to run it from flash or CD...|
