i updated the bios but fdisk still thinks i only have 1.9gb on my hard disk but the hard disk is 20gb

When you use FDISK, do you get the question:
Do you want Large Block Mode enabled? Y/NIf you do, you click on Y for yes.
Then, check to see if there are FOUR options available, after entering the FDISK program. Normally there are only 3, with a brand new, factory drive. If you have 4 FDSIK options, then enter 4 on your keyboard, to see what your drive info. is.
Sometimes, refurbished drives are formatted, and weirder yet, sometimes only formatted on PART of their space. That can be corrected pretty easily. On the other hand, if FDISK only shows options 1 - 3 upon entering the program, then I'd say that there's something wrong with your drive.
Also, I've seen a few mobos do something pretty strange - and that is, not to recognize the GB value of a drive while your system boots with a black screen, such as with a floppy disk. If you can get FDISK to recognize your entire drive, but not the screen, then go ahead and format it anyway - to see if you have all of the space on your drive AFTER the format.
Don't worry, any formatting can be easily and quickly undone again, as long as you don't dump a bunch of software on the drive first.
Is the drive showing up correctly in your mobo bios? Have you tried to auto detect it?
Hey Intel, AMD rulez!
