I've got hard disk failure on a friends pc, if Itry to restart the pc it 99 times out of 100 it will report hard disk failure no disk found or similar then the other 1 out of 100 it will start go into XP and then freeze before it has finished loading all the icons in the systray.

What can I do try etc....?

suggest installing failing hdd as a slave in another pc and copying all required info to good master hdd, then binning failing drive.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

** UPDATE **
Well after 2 days of not being used my friends turned on the pc and it lasted for a few hours before failing again, I told them not to start the pc again untill i go round. When I did it started so was able to back up emails etc...

Anyhow I realaised the fan wasn't working, so have changed this, but I think the damage to the h/d is fatal and they have purchased a new h/d, fingers crossed it's OK!
